You ever wonder what happens when you donate to a Wish List item for either Mooseheart or Moosehaven? Once the fundraising goal is met, the Wish List item is purchased and gets put to work. In September of 2019, we asked donors and members to help us with some new equipment for our Auto Mechanics Vocational program. Donors from all over helped Moose Charities raise $111,734.57 for the purchase of the equipment needed by the classroom! All of YOU did that!
Moose Charities was invited to see the newly purchased equipment. I was able to interview the teacher, Mr. Fookes, who has been teaching the class for over four years. Once the students were dressed for the class, they immediately went to work. Many of them teamed up to work on one car at a time. Most, if not all of the cars the students work on were donated at one point to Mooseheart. Mr. Fookes teaches them about tire and engine work depending on what skill level class they are in. The class eventually strips down some of the cars that would be deemed unrepairable, to give them a better look from the outside in. I asked Mr. Fookes about how he got into teaching auto mechanics, he referenced his past experience working in various shops ever since high school. He wanted to take all the knowledge he had and give it back to the industry starting with the future mechanics of the world. Teaching these kids the importance of vehicle maintenance helps them understand how to become reliable and trustworthy.
Without your help, this program would not exist. Mooseheart thanks YOU for your donation to the Wish List.
