Holiday Happiness: Virtual 5K

By. Jenna Johnson

In light of the unforeseen and seemingly ever-changing world we’ve found ourselves living in, it seems people are really striving to find little joys wherever they can. A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine was telling me about a virtual 5K she and her boyfriend wanted to participate in. It was through an organization they both love and the proceeds went to charity. The only problem was they couldn’t receive their t-shirts and medals due to the fact they live in Canada, and the organization only shipped to the US. It was easy for me to accept her simple favor to have the 5K items shipped to me here in Illinois, and then ship them on to her. I remember receiving the package and being excited myself, knowing that they would be even more excited when they got them themselves. In the year we are having, I was glad to assist in the little way I could of helping along some long-distance happiness.
This got me thinking of another race I am familiar with right here at Moose Charities – the Holiday Lights 5K. Though it will be a bit different this year, (isn’t everything?), our 5K will still embody what it’s always been about – celebrating the holidays with friends and family, and supporting Mooseheart. Though we can’t come together in person this year, I think our team at Moose Charities has certainly thought of some creative ways to make it just as fun and special!

In addition to the typical race winners for time, we’ve added a few more contests to add to the holiday festivities:
Favorite Team Name: A fun and unique team name- be sure it’s entered properly when you register and start a team.
•Best Team Picture: A team photo with a twist like fun costumes, hats or a theme…Be creative! Send to request@moosecharities.org
•Most Spirit: Let us know what your team did to bring the holiday spirit to life. Something out of the ordinary at a workplace, lodge, or in your community. Send us an email to request@moosecharities.org
•Highest Individual FUNdraiser: Most money raised by one individual beyond the registration fees
•Highest Team FUNdraiser: Most money raised by one team beyond the registration fees
•Largest Team: The team with the most registered participants.
•Trails are Blazin’: Best 5k route completed—picture(s) required and sent to request@moosecharities.org

The Moose Charities office will be participating this year as the…drum roll please… Moosequerade Squad!

Moose Charites Moosequerade Squad

You can join our team or create your own, but either way we would love to have your support! Whether you’re a seasoned Holiday Lights 5k veteran or a newbie, I hope you choose to be a part of our event – both to support Mooseheart and to bring some happiness and *light* to your life this year!
